‘Construction material routinely dumped on roads’

Despite various orders issued from the office of the local District Magistrate (DM), construction materials are being dumped routinely on the Jammu-Srinagar highway and other roads, the locals alleged on Tuesday.

The locals said, “The orders of the DM are being openly violated in major areas and the police and municipal authorities don’t really seem to care.”

The dumped materials on the Jammu-Srinagar Highway and other roads create nuisance for the commuters and hamper smooth flow of traffic. The locals claimed that the various orders issued to restrict the dumping of construction materiel are confined only to papers and are being violated every now and then. “The roads of Batote, Ramban and Banihal towns of the district are proof of the constant violation,” they said.

The people alleged that the concerned officers and law enforcing authorities have failed to implement these orders on the ground level. “We even complained to the local police and municipal authorities, but no one bothered to do anything,” they claimed.

The locals seek intervention and attention of the local Deputy Commissioner and have requested him to look into the matter and do the needful so that people do not suffer any more.
