Conduct proper survey for housing schemes, demand Mendhar residents

The residents of Mendhar Monday demanded a proper survey to be conducted for th the finalization of the lists of beneficiaries under various housing schemes being run by the government.

The residents, while talking to Greater Kashmir, alleged,”In a number of instances, the deserving poor families have been left out ofthe lists, while the influential people have been featured in the lists asbeneficiaries. This is sheer injustice.”

They claimed that a number of families in the rural areasare living in mud houses (kacha houses) and yet their names have not beenfeatured in the survey lists. “This shows that the survey has not beenconducted in a fair manner,” they alleged.

Sharing his plight, Mohammad Sharif, a resident ofKangra-Galuta panchayat, said, “In my panchayat, dozens of families are stillliving in the old and dilapidated mud houses and are yet to receive thebenefits of the housing schemes.”

He, alongwith other locals, demanded that a probe beconducted into the issue. “The irregularities need to be done away with.Besides, the erring field employees should be sternly dealt with. The housingschemes are meant for the poor and the government should ensure that the deservingpeople get their due.”

On being contacted, block development officer, Mendhar, assured to look into the issue.
