Armed wing of police asked to remain ready for law and order duties

Personnel of armed wing of J&K police have been asked to remain on toes for dealing with “the law and order situation.”

In this regard, an official communiqué has been issued to the police chiefs of armed wings of Kashmir and Jammu regions.

   

According to the wireless message marked as “most urgent” from the additional director general of police (ADGP) armed, dated 23 February 2019, it has been directed that “all the manpower posted/attached in respective offices including pipe-bands may be kept available for law and order duties at any short notice.”

“Commandants of JKAP 9th, 12th battalion/IRP 14th battalion shall keep all the manpower presently available with estates Zewan/Channi Jammu in a state of readiness for their further deployment for law and order duties at any time,” reads the communiqué addressed to IGP armed Kashmir and Jammu regions and all the commandants of JKAP battalions.

A police source said that the policemen have been “kept on alert mode” for meeting any law and order challenges during the upcoming elections being held in Jammu and Kashmir.

Pertinently, all the government forces across Kashmir are on alert mode since the deadliest attack on February 14 at Lethpora, Pulwama in which more than 40 CRPF men were killed and over two dozen injured.

At least 100 companies of additional forces including BSF, CRPF, ITPB and SSB have arrived in Srinagar with police maintaining that it is an election requirement.

Governor S P Malik has also said that more companies are on way to Kashmir for creating a “conducive atmosphere for the upcoming elections”.
