Permit of the ill fated Tempo traveler, which met with an accident at Mughal Road on Thursday, had expired in 2017.
Assistant Regional Transport Officer Shopian, Muazzam Ali,told Greater Kashmir that “a report has been submitted to higher authoritiesand it has come to fore that permit of the vehicle had expired.”
Pertinently, 11 students were killed and seven othersinjured when the Tempo traveler they were travelling in fell into a deep gorgealong the mountainous Mughal road in south Kashmir’s Shopian district onThursday afternoon.
Students of Kashish Computer Institute, a private centre,according to an official were on an excursion to Dobijan Shopian from Surankotearea of Poonch district when theaccident took place.
Sources said that during investigation conducted by MotorVehicles department it came to fore that the ill fated vehicle was purchased in2010. “It was having valid insurance upto Aug 2019 and fitness upto 10 March2020. However the route permit of this contract carriage vehicle had expired on10 August 2017 and was not renewed since then.”
” Driving a commercial vehicle on road without routepermit is illegal and this vehicle was plying without a permit for the past 22months” sources added.
