Deduct HRA, recover rent from officials in Govt accommodations: Finance Department

Finance Department has directed all the administrative secretaries to deduct House Rent Allowance (HRA) and recover rent from the employees who have Government accommodations.

“No HRA is admissible to any such Government employee who is allotted Government accommodation or is in occupation of any Government accommodation under any pretext, unless of course, expressly provided by any order or rule,” a circular said.

As far as move employees are concerned, the circular states that they shall not be entitled to HRA if they are provided Government accommodation in both capital cities i.e., summer and winter capitals.

“In case any amount of HRA has been paid to Government employee who is residing in any Government accommodation such amount shall be recovered from the concerned employee forthwith.”

All Government employees who have been provided Government accommodation by the Estates Department or other departments like Roads and Buildings, Tourism Department, Forest etc. have to pay rent of that accommodation, the Finance Department has made it clear.

In this regard, the Finance Department has asked all the administrative secretaries to direct the Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) under their control to ensure recovery of HRA which has been wrongly paid to Government employees while in possession of Government accommodation in violation of rules.
