Fresh rains in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 21: Slight rains were experienced in parts of Kashmir on Thursday leading to a dip in temperatures while the Meteorological Department predicted more precipitation during the next 24 hours.

Kashmir is bracing for light to moderate rain and thundershowers over the next 48 hours.

   

The Valley has recorded an increase in night temperatures, with some areas reporting temperatures above normal for this time of year.

Officials here said that the higher reaches as well as the plains received slight rains on Thursday.

“The precipitation has led to a drop in maximum temperatures across Kashmir,” they said.

The MeT has forecast the possibility of light to moderate rain and snow in many places with thunder, lightning, and gusty winds over the plains of Kashmir and Jammu division until March 22.

On March 23, the weather is expected to be generally dry, while on March 24, partly to generally cloudy weather is expected with light rain and snow in a few places.

From March 25 to 26, generally, dry weather is expected, while from March 27 to 28, the weather is expected to be partly to generally cloudy with the possibility of light rain and snow in a few places.

The forecast indicates a change in weather patterns, with Kashmir preparing for the onset of spring amidst the changing climatic conditions.

Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 9.9 degrees Celsius, which is 5.2 degrees Celsius above normal.

Qazigund recorded a minimum temperature of 6.4 degrees Celsius, which is 2.4 degrees Celsius above normal.

Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 3 degrees Celsius, which is 2.9 degrees Celsius above normal.

Kokernag recorded a minimum temperature of 8.2 degrees Celsius, which is 4.7 degrees Celsius above normal.

In contrast, Kupwara town recorded a low of 7.3 degrees Celsius, which is 4.2 degrees Celsius below normal.

Gulmarg recorded a low of 3.2 degrees Celsius, which is 5.5 degrees Celsius above normal.

Jammu recorded a minimum of 18.4 degrees Celsius, which is below normal by 3.5 degrees Celsius.

Banihal recorded a low of 9 degrees Celsius, Batote 11.6 degrees Celsius, and Bhaderwah 5 degrees Celsius.
