One-way traffic for Kashmir today

Ramban, Mar 7:  Srinagar Jammu National Highway (NH 44)- the only surface link between Kashmir valley and the rest of the country, remained open for one-way traffic for Jammu on Thursday.

Officials said, “However, vehicular traffic was halted for some time at Dalwass for necessary repair works.”

They said, “After clearing scheduled Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and heavy vehicles for Jammu, heavy vehicles carrying essential supplies were also allowed to move towards Kashmir in a regulated manner on the National Highway today.”

Official said that National Highway 44 remained open for one-way traffic but the movement of traffic remained slow due to the narrow carriageway at the mud and landslide-affected Dalwass area of Nashri near the Chenani-Nashri tunnel and due to the breakdown of five heavy vehicles.

The officials monitoring the regulation of traffic on the National Highway in Ramban said, “Due to single-lane at Dalwass, Mehar-Cafeteria, Panthyal, Hingni, Gangroo, Nachlana, Kishtwari Pathar and poor road surface conditions at several places between Nashri and Banihal sectors, traffic movement remained slow on the highway on Thursday.”

They said that hundreds of LMVs and heavy vehicles crossed the Nashri-Banihal sector for their respective destinations till late Thursday evening.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir traffic police department issued a fresh advisory for Friday stating that subject to fair weather and road conditions, only one-way traffic would be allowed to ply from Nagrota-Jammu towards Kashmir.

“Cut-off timings for Kashmir-bound light vehicles have been fixed from 6 am to 11 am from Nagrota-Jammu on Friday. No LMV vehicle would be allowed to move after or before the fixed cut-off timings. Heavy vehicles would be managed in a regulated manner on Friday,” the traffic authorities said.
