Carrying the mantle, Soldier’s widow joins army as officer

Among 252 cadets, who passed out of Chennai based Officers’ Training Academy (OTA) as lieutenants on Saturday, was one Neeru Sambyal, an army man’s widow, definitely an inspiration to many aspirants of defence exams.  

Resident of Jammu’s Bari Brahmana, Neeru Sambyal, 28, who passed out of OTA after 11-month rigorous training, lost her husband, Rifleman Ravinder Sambyal in service.  

   

Defying all odds, the mother of 4-year-old daughter, Sambyal traveled, marched on the road less travelled by wives of deceased soldiers.

She took it upon herself to live her life by donning an Indian Army Officer’s uniform and serve with honour.

A well educated lady with educational degrees of BA, BEd , MA and MEd, trained herself rigorously while taking care of her four-year-old daughter Sanidhya Rajput, cracked Services Selection Board in her very first attempt and after a year of agony and tough training, she has been commissioned as Lieutenant in the Army Ordnance Corps.

2 JAK RIF, ‘Bodyguard’, the battalion of her late husband also counseled, motivated, assisted her in every manner possible and ensured her dream was realized.

The lady proved that with determination, hard work and grit, even the sky above us cannot be a limit.

Lieutenant general Abhay Krishna, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Command reviewed the spectacular parade.
