COVID-19 | Offer Friday prayers at home: Grand Mufti urges people

Grand Mufti, Nisar-ul-Islam Thursday urged people to offer Friday prayers at their homes and follow health advisories in letter and spirit.

”Amid the prevailing situation and health concerns, we, inconsultation with Islamic scholars, concluded that all people should offerFriday prayers at in their homes,” he said.

   

He said earlier people were urged to offer only Fardhprayers in Masjids. ”However, with reports of first death of Covid-19 andpossibility of more people testing positive for the virus, it is in theinterest of all of us to be in home quarantine,” he said.

He said some people want to go to Masjid as they used to,because of their sentiments and emotions.

”I want to make clear for them that these are testing timeswhen we all have to make collective effort to contain the spread of virus, tobreak its chain of transmission. Once this phase passes, we will again resortto normal life and religious activities, InshahAllah,” the Mufti said.

He said human lives were precious and no Muslim should doany act which harms another individual. ”We should not be a source fortransmission of infection. We urge people to follow health advisories, be athomes and stay safe,” he said.
