‘Dead dog pulled out from filtration plant’

The residents of Aishmuqam village in Anantnag district on Thursday accused Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department for pulling out a “dead dog” from a local filtration plant.

The residents said filtration plant has been left uncovered. They claimed that two employees of the PHE tried to silently drag out “dead dog” from the filtration plant; however they were spotted by locals.

The news spread like wildlife to adjacent areas and public address systems were used informing locals not to use “contaminated water” from the taps.

“I myself saw them (PHE employees) taking out the dog, and then going for bleaching,” claimed Noor ul Basar, a local resident.

He said even some employees of the PHE discreetly told them to clean water tanks at their homes.

“What is the fun of spending eight crore on a filtration plant, if you can’t get it covered. It is wastage of public money,” asked Sartaj Shah, another visibly angry resident.

However, executive engineer PHE Anantnag division Bashir Ahmad Shah denied that any dog was found in the filtration plant dispelling it as a “rumor”.

“This is not true at all. And let me tell you we the water supply to the plant was cut four days. You can even confirm from the concerned police who investigated the incident,” said Shah, adding that filtration plant will be covered soon.
