‘Dedicate my success to dad who is in Tihar jail’

SamaShabir Shah, the daughter of the jailed separatist leader Shabir Ahmad Shah, has topped the CBSE 12th class examination in Jammu and Kashmir with nearly 98 per cent marks, the result of which was declared on Saturday.

Sama is a student of Delhi Public School (DPS), Athwajan, and has secured 489 marks out of 500 (97.8 percent marks).

“I want to dedicate my success to my dad who is in Tihar jail. I remember when I used to go to there to meet my father, I would study in an auto-rickshaw and it was a two hour journey,” Sama told Greater Kashmir.

She said she would never be allowed to take her books inside the jail and would sit outside the gate and study there before being allowed to see her father. “We were made to wait for three to four hours inside jail before me and my mother could meet my father. But they never allowed me to take my book inside,” she said.

The mother of Sama, DrBilkees while cherishing the moment of success said her daughter made the family proud despite not getting attention and time of her parents.

“I feel proud because I have not given her time properly as I was all the time busy and was called five to six times to Delhi by the Enforcement Directorate. It all happened during the crucial period which disturbed her studies,” she said.

Bilkees said that her husband Shabir Ahmad Shah usually would never show his concern for the studies of his children, but this year he told Sama to do her best in the exams. “Sama did it and made her family proud,” she said.

The DPS Athwajan has topped among all the CSBE affiliated schools of the state. The school has got 99.5 percent overall results in the exams. “Around 160 students from our school have secured above 80 percent marks in the class 12th exams,” said pro-vice chairman of DPS, Vijay Dhar.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the class 12 results this afternoon on the official website of the board. The pass percentage has improved from last year’s 82.02 to 83.01 per cent this year. Girls with 88.31% yet again have done better than boys who have a pass percentage of 78.99% by a margin of 9.32%.
