DSEK launches 10-day enrollment drive for govt schools

The Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has started a 10-day enrollment drive to increase the student population in government educational institutions particularly at the primary level.

On Thursday the enrollment drive was held at Chinar Bagharea in Srinagar to motivate the parents to enroll their kids in governmentschools.

   

“The maximum population of kids is out of schools in thearea. We held door-to-door drive and motivated the parents that their kids willbe provided best facilities in the government schools,” Director SchoolEducation Kashmir (DSEK), Muhammad Younis Malik said.

The enrollment drives have been started in wake of the poorperformance of the department in controlling rate of out-of-school children.The revelations were made in a fresh survey, School Education Quality Index(SEQI), carried out by NITI Ayog last year.

The survey had revealed that the performance of schooleducation department in J&K has remained “poor” as only 1.8 percentout-of-school children were enrolled in mainstream schools up to 2019.

“The percentage of identified out-of-school children was 1.9percent in 2015 academic year which later decreased to 1.8,” the surveyrevealed.

Meanwhile, DSEK Muhammad Younis Malik said the enrollmentdrive has been started to control the rate of Out-of-School Children (OoSC)wherein the department will cater to 6-14 year age group and enroll them ingovernment schools.
