Farooq, Omar hit out at PDP-BJP on civilian killings

Hitting out at the PDP-led government for its “anti-people” policies National Conference President Farooq Abdullah and party working president Omar Abdullah Wednesday expressed concern over the civilian killings in Kashmir, asking the government to “introspect”.

Extending heartfelt condolences to bereaved families of Kulgam, Abdullah said it was time for PDP-BJP government and especially Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to introspect and acknowledge the damage caused by their “anti-people policies and actions throughout the state”.

   

Omar said it was for the Chief Minister and her “conscious to answer for her government’s continued supervision of bloodshed and oppression in Kashmir”.

He expressed profound grief over the killings and solidarity with bereaved families.

The party general secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar who presided over a meeting of party leaders and legislators here expressed dismay over “abject failure” of the Chief Minister who is also head of the Unified Command in stopping “mayhem that has engulfed the whole state”.

The meeting, attended by party leaders and members Nasir Aslam Wani, Muhammad Akbar Lone, Peer Afaq Ahmad, Irfan Shah, Showkat Mir, Imran Nabi Dar and Ghulam Nabi Bhat unanimously condemned the killing of civilians in Kulgam.

While speaking on occasion Sagar said, “It’s really unfortunate that civilians as young as 13 year old are getting killed and that there was no accountability for such killings.”

He said ever since PDP-BJP government assumed office, J&K has suffered at every level.

“Whether it is Jammu, Srinagar or any other part of the state, mayhem and chaos continues to run amok. We all are witness to deteriorating situation. Deaths and maiming of the worst order have now become a routine,” he said.

Expressing sympathy with bereaved families, Nasir Aslam Wani said, “The government has lost the mandate to govern this state. The rising graph of unfortunate civilian killings happening under Mehbooba Mufti’s watch and ward should serve as a stark reminder for powers sitting in Delhi to accept their failures.”

He reiterated that National Conference would continue to espouse path of dialogue and reconciliation wherein both India and Pakistan need to sit together and try to evolve a consensus which would guarantee rights and dignity of people.

Meanwhile, according to party statement, south zone president and former minister Sakina Itoo and District president and MLA Homshalibugh Abdul Majeed Bhat strongly condemned “brutality unleashed by the PDP-BJP Government on people of the Valley particularly in south Kashmir”. “I express heartfelt condolences with families of those civilians who have lost their loved ones in police firing at Khudwani,” said Larmi.
