HC stays elections to SMC’s 3 committees

The High Court on Tuesday deferred elections to three Standing Committees of Srinagar Municipal Corporation after the petitioner challenged holding the exercise on the grounds that authorities have to first disclose nominations, scheduled date, time and venue for the exercise.

“Subject to objections and till next date before the benchrespondent No 4 is directed to defer the elections scheduled to be conducted onMay 28 and May 29 of 2019,” reads the court order delivered by Justice TashiRabstan.

   

The elections have to be held for Standing Committees forPublic Heath and Sanitation, Social Justice and Women Empowerment and SwatchBharat and Housing for all.

The petitioner had contested that the notice (issued for theelections) lacks the scheduled date, time and venue, which was “clearviolation” of Regulation 48 of Municipal Corporation Regulation 2005.
