Kashmir witnesses fifth Covid-19 death as elderly Sopore resident breathes his last at SKIMS Bemina

A 75-year-oldCOVID-19 patient from Armpora village of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulladistrict died at a hospital in Srinagar on Friday, taking the total number ofthose who died due to the novel Coronavirus disease to five.

The elderly hadtested positive for the dreaded disease earlier this month, reported newsagency GNS.

   

Confirming thedeath, Dr Shafa A Deva, Medical Superintendent SKIMS Bemina told GNS that theseptuagenarian was admitted to the hospital, one of the exclusively Covid-19management facility, on April 02.

“The patient washypertensive and was also suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease(COPD Asthma),” she said.

With due complianceto the guidelines by the Ministry of Health, she said the body would be handedover to the family of the deceased for last rites.    

With 75-year-old’sdeath, the fatality due to COVID-19 has gone up to four in Kashmir andfive across J&K.

There are at least314 COVID-19 cases in J&K and more than 250 were added this month. From thetime the first COVID-19 case was announced in J&K on March 09, it tookabout three weeks for the cases to reach 50-mark. It took the next five daysfor the cases to double to cross 100-mark and next five days to cross 200-mark.

Till date, theofficially confirmed tally stands at 314—54 in Jammu and 260 in Kashmir. Fivepeople have died due to the deadly infection in the J&K while 38—9 in Jammuand 29 in Kashmir division have recovered and discharged, leaving the activecases in Kashmir to 227 and 44 in Jammu.
