Mirwaiz for return of mortal remains of Bhat, Guru

Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Thursday paid glowing tributes to  Muhammad Maqbool Bhat and Muhammad Afzal Guru on their death anniversaries.

He urged the international community especially world human rights organizations to play their role in building pressure on New Delhi to return the mortals of Bhat and Guru to their families for burial in Kashmir.

Mirwaiz said the sacrifices of Bhat and Guru have got “etched in our collective conscious as a nation striving for liberation.”

In a statement, Mirwaiz, who in under continuous house arrest, said that “the sacrifices offered by Bhat and Guru are a constant reminder to remain steadfast and work with dedication and focus towards the fair and just resolution of our political struggle.”

He extended support to the announcement made by the Joint Resistance Leadership with regard to observing complete strike on 9 February and marching towards UN office Sonwar to submit a memorandum seeking return of the mortal remains of Bhat and Guru from New Delhi.

He urged the people to support it so that to send “a strong message to New Delhi that Kashmiris can’t be bullied into submission through the policy of repression and military might.”

“Kashmiris are struggling for a just political cause since past seven decades and the sacrifices offered by Bhat and Guru were for this cause. The best way of paying tributes to the martyrs of Kashmir, including Bhat and  Guru is that people from all faiths and hues must remain steadfast and committed towards the cause that has priceless sacrifices at its back,” he said.

Mirwaiz said that New Delhi along with its local rulers in Kashmir backed by lakhs of forces and huge military apparatus have left no stone unturned to muzzle dissent and resistance in Kashmir and every day “new suppressive methods are employed to make the people of Kashmir bend on their knees and surrender.”

“While we are up against a mighty and arrogant adversary the way to defeat its moves of suppression is that people of Kashmir stay united and remain steadfast towards the mission of martyrs,” he said. “People also need to remain alert to the day-to-day conspiracies of Delhi aimed at changing the basic nature of the dispute.”  Mirwaiz said “our struggle is difficult but our faith in its success strong.”
