Resignation spree on day 2 of governor’s rule

With the loss of the patronage of political parties, the state Advocate General, more than 40 legal counsels representing the state in the High Court, and many other people appointed by the previous government submitted resignation on Thursday at the direction of the new dispensation.

On the directions of the Governor’s administration, officials of the state Law department asked all the counsels who were appointed by the PDP-BJP government in the past three-and-a-half years to put in their papers.

Subsequently, all the counsels including AG, Jehangir Iqbal Ganie, submitted their resignations to the government. Apart from AG, the previous dispensation had appointed more than 40 lawyers as additional advocate generals, deputy advocate generals and government advocates in both the wings of the High Court.

The other political appointees have also begun to submit their resignations to government. Those include Mudasir Amin Khan, who was recently appointed as vice -chairman, J&K Building and Other Constructions Workers Welfare Board.

“I hereby demit the charge of the post of vice chairman, J&K Building and Other Constructions Workers Welfare Board, today on 21st June, 2018,” he said, in a letter to the state administration.

On Wednesday, Peerzada Mansoor Hussain (vice chairman Khadi and Village Industries Board) and Nayeema Ahmad Mehjoor (chairperson State Commission for Women) were among the first ones to resign.

The previous PDP-BJP government had made a record number of political appointments in the past three- and- a- half years. Nearly 30-35 persons were appointed by them as vice chairmen of different boards and institutions and also as analysts and coordinators. During the last budget session, government had come under widespread criticism for political appointments.
