Tral people peeved over power crisis

The residents of Tral township in Pulwama district are up in arms against the Power Development Department for its “failure” to provide them with adequate power supply.

The residents of Tral town said that during this winter, they were suffering badly due to irregular and unscheduled power cuts.

“The supply comes for minutes and remains cut for hours. We hardly get electricity for one hour at a stretch in a day,” the locals said.

“When the residents of the town are suffering immensely, the position of those in villages can only be imagined,” said Mohammad Subhan, a local resident.

“At times we are unable to charge our mobile phones. The unavailability of power is inflicting losses on the business establishments, health centres and other commercial institutions,” he said.

“Despite paying bills on time, we are forced to spend evenings and nights in darkness,” they said.

Students from the area said that they are unable to study at evening due to the power cuts.

An official of the Power Development Department division Awantipora told Greater Kashmir that due to overload, the area faces power curtailments.

Sources said the main town receives 20 MW power from Kanjinag grid station against the requirement of 35 MW.
