Students pursuing post graduation (PG) courses at the Leh campus of Kashmir University have accused the varsity of meting out step-motherly treatment to them.
The students said the varsity has not conducted their department-wise unit test since November last year. “The campus has no electricity and water supply causing inconvenience to us,” the students said.
“We were enrolled here in August last year and till date we have not completed even a single unit test despite completing 80 percent syllabus. The delay in holding the exam is due to poor administration and non availability of stationery at the campus,” he said.
The students said their first unit test was scheduled in November 2017. However, the varsity authorities were able to conduct exams for only three papers and rest of the exams are lingering for unknown reasons.
“We were able to appear in only three papers. Exam for rest of the papers could not be held due to chilling cold and non availability of heating arrangements, lack of water supply at campus,” the students said.
The students said the exam for pending papers of unit one was not conducted despite resumption of class work post winter vacation in the varsity. They said the winter vacations commenced from November 20 and culminated on March 15 this year.
“But when we joined the campus after vacations we were shocked to see the campus is running without administration except class fourth employees,” the students said.
The students said the campus had not electricity supply available and no teaching staff was hired for teaching students.
“When we enquired about our teaching staff of geography department, we came to know that there contract is pending because varsity administration has not renewed it,” the students said, adding that they are facing inconvenience due to indifferent attitude of varsity administration.
The students said the campus is running short of teaching and non teaching staff and no examination has been held till date.
“Our fellow batch of 2017 in main campus has almost completed the second semester and we are here struggling for first semester examination,” the students said.
Registrar, Kashmir University, Khursheed Ahmad Butt said the campus resumed class work but the water pipes were burst due to intense cold conditions in Leh.
“We have very less number of students in Leh campus but we have asked the concerned to repair the pipes and set all the facilities in order,” he said.
He said the exams will also be conducted very soon in the campus.
