Traffic partially restored on Jammu-Srinagar highway

After the contractor company of National Highway Authorityof India (NHAI) took up the restoration work on the old alignment of theJammu-Srinagar highway in Ramban town, traffic was partially restored in thetown on Wednesday afternoon.  

The highway had developed large cracks on Tuesday afternoonnear Jammu and Kashmir bank building, forcing the authorities to suspendmovement of vehicular traffic on the highway.

   

Sources said that following the damaged to the highway, thebusiness unit of J&K Bank was also shifted from the old building as it hadalso developed cracks.

“Soon after the repair and renovation work was taken up, thestranded gas and oil tankers were allowed to move on the highway to reachSrinagar town on priority,” they said.  

Meanwhile, some locals also staged protest against thecontractor company of NHAI for delaying the repair work, thus affecting thevehicular traffic for a brief period of time.

It is important to mention here that the Jammu-Srinagarhighway was blocked at Ramsu on Monday morning and Ramban town on Tuesday.
