‘Set benchmarks for excellence in varied aspects of university education’

Advisor to Governor K Skandan urged the University ofKashmir and SKUAST-K to set bench marks for performances in varied aspects ofUniversity Education and introduce new courses in tune with industry needs.

The advisor was chairing a high level meeting at theUniversity of Kashmir Tuesday today.

   

Vice Chancellor KU Prof TalatAhmad , VC SKUAST Kashmir ProfNazeer Ahmad, Dean Academic affairs  KUProf M A Sahaf , Dean Research Prof Zafar A. Reshi , Registrar KashmirUniversity Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir , Head Department of Geography and Regionaldevelopment Prof  M S Bhat , Director IT&SS Dr. MaroofQadri were present besides other University of Kashmirofficials.

During the academic discussion which lasted for more than anhour, the advisor emphasized to enhance research capabilities and to have close linkages between academia andindustry. He asked the University to create a Centre of Excellence in IT andtrain the Human Resources. The part of such Human Resource, he said will beengaged for creating Business Process Outsourcing(BPO)  facilities, which will  eventually be established in districtheadquarters and  at the satellitecampuses of the University of Kashmir.

During the meeting the course on M Sc Disaster Managementrun by Department of Geography and regional development came under discussionand the advisor asked the University to upgrade the course and create a “Centrefor Disaster Risk Management ” at Kashmir University.

The advisor assured full support to VC Prof Talat Ahmad instrengthening the University campuses at Leh and Kargil and asked forintroduction of additional courses at both the campuses.  He also laid stress on promotingentrepreneurship among the youth and suggested that Universities may introducesuitable courses in this area also.

Vice Chancellor SKUAST Kashmir Prof Nazeer Ahmad alsodiscussed issues concerning his University with the advisor who assured him ofall help. Prof Nazir highlighted the potential and importance of  apiculture, high density orcharding in apple,commercial cut flower  and bulbproduction and processing. He also stressed that recruitment rules of StateGovernment be modified to the extent that they are in conformity with thedegrees awarded by the Universities.

Prof Talat Ahmad and VC SKUAST-Kashmir thanked the advisorfor his keen interest in the affairs of the Kashmir University, SKUAST-Kashmirand assured him to follow the suggestions put forward by him to lead theUniversity towards  the path of academicexcellence.
