The year that is now behind us, left loads of pain in its wake. From gossip to table talk to news to serious analysis we have dwelt on this aspect of the year gone by. The sadness is all that we get at the end of these discussions. But it’s never good to live with a permanent sense of pessimism. Even in extreme situations human societies have reasons to kindle the lights of new hope. As we are into the new year, one can only hope that the times ahead bring good tidings. There is a huge wish list for the next year for each one of us, but at a collective level our most cherished wish is to find an end to uncertain times. We all know that a peculiar atmosphere in our state has resulted in the destruction of normality, and has given us devastated lives. One can only wish that sense prevails and those who matter in the politics and power of the region mend fences. If the leadership in this region, at the top, take the blinkers of narrow interest off, we can make a new beginning. A stroke of fresh politics, and a statesmanly attitude are needed to make a change in this ugly atmosphere of mistrust and the consequent violence. It is in the interest of all the peoples living in this region that hearts and minds are opened up and the relationships are restored. No wonder if such a thing is done it can be a game changer. After all there have been tougher situations in the recent political history of the globe where a shift in mindset initiated a grand change, and people lived happily ever after. In our case it is a dominant wish of people that the founts of human tragedy are corked, and we all are allowed to live in a peaceful and dignified atmosphere. As we step into new year, we make this wish, and pray for its fulfilment. Let humanity prosper.
