1448 new Covid cases; lowest in 49 days

Srinagar, June 5: In an encouraging sign, Jammu and Kashmir reported below 1500 Covid-19 cases after a gap of 49 days, and for the first since the outbreak of the pandemic over 50,000 tests were conducted in a day.

On Saturday, J&K reported 1448 Covid infection cases and 25 fatalities attributed to the viral respiratory illness.

   

As per the officials, J&K conducted 50703 tests – RAT and RTPCR -which is the highest number of tests done in a day. However the good news is that despite increasing the number of tests, the number of infection cases detected has come down.

From last week the UT has been witnessing consistent dip in Covid infection cases and deaths due to Covid too have witnessed a downtrend. After April 17, it is for the first time that the J&K has reported less than 1500 cases. In the month of May the daily spike of infection cases crossed 5000.

As per the details shared by the health department, out of total Covid related deaths, 13 have been reported from Jammu division and 12 from Kashmir division.

As per the official details, 04 people died in GMC Jammu, 04 in GMC Rajouri, 01 in GMC Doda, 01 in GMC Kathua, 01 in Amandeep Hosp Pathankot, 02 in Home/ Brought Dead, 02 in SMHS Sgr, 02 in SKIMS JVC Bemina, 01 in SKIMS Soura, 01 in JLNM Srinagar, 01 in SDH Sopore, 01 in CHC Tral, 03 in GMC Anantnag & 01 in Trauma Hosp Bijbehara.

As far as the Covid infection cases are concerned J&K reported 1448 Covid-19 positive cases, 453 from Jammu division and 995 from Kashmir division taking the total tally of infection cases in the UT to 299050.

Srinagar reported 222 cases, Baramulla 140, Budgam 136, Pulwama 107, Kupwara 125, Anantnag 95, Bandipora 43, Ganderbal 54, Kulgam 59, Shopian 14, Jammu 106, Udhampur 28, Rajouri 80, Doda 51, Kathua 39, Samba 11, Kishtwar 28, Poonch 59, Ramban 33 and Reasi 18.

As per the official data, the number of active cases is coming down rapidly. On Thursday the number of active cases was 28423 – 18213 in Kashmir and 10210 in Jammu division.

The number of persons recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24-hours was 2615 – 842 in Jammu division and 1773 in Kashmir division. The total number of Covid recoveries in J&K has reached 266576.
