Brave-heart fireman, GK Senior Editor among State Awardees

Fireman Abdul Majid Wani, who saved many lives before dying while dousing a fire in Srinagar last December, was among the recipients of State Award announced by the government today.

As per an order by General Administration Department, State will confer awards to 34 personalities for their contribution in public life, arts, literature, sports and social works.

   

Wani (55), who died after receiving critical burn injuries while dousing fire on December 9, 2017 in Koker Bazar Srinagar, will be conferred the Bravery Award posthumously. His kin will get cash award of Rs 1 lakh, a medal and a citation.

The outstanding media person award went to Ashwani Kaumar, Bureau Chief Aaj Tak, Arif Shafi, Senior Editor Greater Kashmir, Toufiq Rashid, chief of bureau Hindustan Times, Anil Bhat, Bureau Chief Press Trust of India, Abhimanyu Sharma, Danik Jagran, and Mushtaq Ahmed Tantray, deputy director Doordarshan.

In Literature, Dogra writer Gianeshwar Sharma, social activist Atiqa Bano (Posthumous) and Kashmir poet Dr. Darakhshan Andrabi will get the awards. 

For performing arts, Kashmiri Singer Vijay Malla (Posthumous), actress Zaira Wasim and Singer Composer Waheed Geelani were selected.

In arts and craft category, Artist Muneer Ahmed Khan, Junior Assistant I&FC Department, and Constable Ishfaq Ali Mir (Police Press) will be awarded.

Chotay Taray Foundation has been selected for Social Reforms & Empowerment.

Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon, principal secretary to the Govt. Higher Education Department, Navin Kumar Choudhary, principal secretary Finance Department, Rohit Kansal, principal secretary to Chief Minister, Shailender Kumar, commissioner secretary Industries and Commerce department, Arshad Ayoub, special secretary to Chief Minister, Inam-ul-Haq- Sadiqui OSD to Tourism Minister and Gurmeet Namgial would gets awards for Meritorious Public Service.

Theater personality Balwant Thakur and Proprietor of Khazir Travels, Haji Khazir Mohammad Dar will be awarded lifetime achievement awards.

Outstanding sportsperson awards will be presented to Rajinder Singh (Wushu), Aijaz Hassan (Wushu), Sairah Zahoor (Thang-Ta), Narinder Sharma (Taekwondo), Rakshak Jandiyal (Roll Ball), Kurpali Singh (Gymnastic Coach) and Majid Dar (Footbal Coach).

In addition, Anjali Sharma of Entrepreneur Computer Aided Drawings got award for Outstanding Industrial Entrepreneurship.
