No dumping site in Ganderbal

With no proper dumping site available in Ganderbal, the garbage in the district is being dumped in the main town along the Srinagar-Kargil highway.

The locals accused the district administration, particularly the municipal committee Ganderbal (MCG), of failing to identify any suitable land for the proper dumping of the garbage in the district.

The locals alleged that the garbage collected by the MCG is dumped near Beehama and power house Ganderbal along the Srinagar-Kargil highway.
Locals alleged that waste collected by the MCG is dumped in the open space along the highway near Beehama, which has become a nuisance.

“The dogs prowl around the area in search of food, which poses a threat to the locals particularly the students,” Muhammad Suhail, a local told Greater Kashmir.

“The authorities have turned a blind eye toward this issue,” he said, adding that the piled up garbage emanates foul smell and has become a health hazard for the people. “It also attracts dogs, cattle, and insects,” a commuter said.

Civil society Ganderbal has also expressed concern over the issue.
Executive officer MCG, Ghulam Mohi ud Din told Greater Kashmir that they have identified a patch of land for the dumping site and the issue will be redressed soon.

“We have identified the land near Sumbal area. A DPR has been sent to the government for approval,” he said.
