Darhal residents decry encroachment on state land

Residents of Darhal area here have decried encroachment on state land, alleging that it is increasing every day and have appealed to the Governor N N Vohra to establish a special revenue commission to probe the same.

People living in different villages of Darhal told Greater Kashmir that a huge chunk of government land, belonging to different departments, has been encroached upon.

“Custodian land in Darhal bus stand area as well as hospital land, school land, animal husbandry land, forest land and lands of other departments located at vital locations in the tehsil headquarter has been encroached upon. At some places, concrete structures have also been constructed,” they alleged.

They said that a major chunk of state land in Thanamang has been encroached upon in past years.

“On papers, there is huge chunk of state land in Darhal, but the ground reality is that there is hardly any of it available. Illegal encroachments have ruined it all,” the locals said.

They appealed to the Governor to setup a special probe committee, to identify illegal encroachments and to remove them.
