FS deptt serves notices to BGSBU canteen, mess

The Food Safety (FS) department on Wednesday served notices to the managements of mess and canteen of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri after they found the same to be running under unhygienic conditions, after an inspection was conducted by the team. Some samples of suspected mis-branded mineral water bottles and beverages were also seized by the inspecting team.

As per details available with Greater Kashmir, a team of Food Safety department, led by Assistant Commissioner Ajeet Singh, along with Food Safety Officer Sanjeev Bali visited the students mess in the hostels and some canteens of BGSBU, including canteen of College of Engineering and Technology.

   

An officer informed that the mess was found to be running under unhygienic conditions were after which notices were served to the authorities to improve hygiene within the next 15-20 days. “We have strictly asked them to improve hygiene, otherwise strict action will be taken against them,” he said.

The Officer further informed that during a raid in the canteens of the University, samples of a mineral water brand and a beverage (juice) were also seized and later sent to the laboratory for testing. “Brands of both the mineral water as well as beverage are suspected to be mis-branded,” the officer said.

He also informed that the management of the canteen has been asked to get register their establishments under Food Safety department.
