Local stage protest against change in road alignment at Aitti

The residents of Aitti area, located near Rajouri town, Wednesday staged a demonstration against the “change in alignment” of proposed double-lane road between Thannamandi and Rajouri.

In the morning hours, all the local traders shut their business establishments in the main Aitti area, near Darhali bridge, as a mark of protest. Then, the traders, accompanied by locals, assembled on the main Thannamandi road and blocked it.

They raised slogans against the government authorities.

The protesting traders said, “In the alignment report submitted by the concerned authorities, the alignment between Darhali bridge and Darhali Morh has been shifted, leaving aside the existing road stretch.”

They added that more than a hundred shops are being run in the area and shifting the road will directly lead to a huge economic loss.

They alleged that the alignment of road has been changed under the pressure of some government officers and politicians.

Later, after more than an hour-long protest, a team of officers from district administration visited the spot and pacified the protesters.

A delegation of people of the area also met the deputy commissioner, Rajouri, in his office chamber and raised their objections.
