PARIHAR BROTHERS CASE: Kishtwar residents protest against ‘harassment of women’ by police

To express their resentment over the “attitude and failure” of Jammu and Kashmir police and administration in solving the mystery behind the killings of Parihar brothers, even after over a month-and-a-half, the residents of Tapal Mohalla, Kishtwar held a demonstration, here on Wednesday.

The protesters alleged that the police are “harassing the locals, especially women”, on the pretext of investigations.

The residents, led by senior National Conference (NC) leader Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo, assembled outside Kishtwar police station and staged a protest against the police and administration. They alleged, “The police have failed to nab the culprits and are unnecessarily harassing the residents of Tappal Mohalla, the native place of Parihar brothers.

While addressing the protesters, Kitchloo said, “We are cooperating with the police, but till date, nothing has been done. A judicial probe should be held under the supervision of a sitting High Court judge.”

The NC leader alleged, “Since the day of the incident, residents of Tappal Mohalla, especially women, are being tortured by the police, on the basis of suspicion. The investigation continues aimlessly even after more than a month-and-a-half has passed. They (police) are torturing our mothers and sisters on the pretext of investigation. We will not tolerate this.”

Kitchloo warned the police and administration to not harass the people of Tappal Mohalla unnecessarily, otherwise “be ready to face repercussions from the public, for which the local administration will be responsible.” He also assured that the general public will cooperate with the agencies, as they have done till now.

Pertinently, senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Anil Parihar and his brother, Ajeet Parihar, were killed by unidentified gunmen on November 1, while they were on way to their home.
