Teachers’ Day was marked with fervour in education institutions across the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch on Wednesday, with events being organized in almost all the institutions.
Pertinently, the day is celebrated every year to mark the birth anniversary of the country’s second President Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
On the occasion, army organized various programmes at several institutions, including Army Goodwill School Potha, Government Higher Secondary School Daraba, Government Degree College Mendhar, Government Secondary School Mendhar, GHSS Jhullas, GMS Kotli, GMS Naili, GHSS Thannamandi, GHS Baisali and GHS Sandot to pay tributes to the great leader.
In several schools, the students of senior classes acted as teachers and experienced what it takes to fulfill the onerous responsibility. The students, in an elated mood, also presented colorful cultural programmes and paid gratitude to the teachers, besides participating in singing, dance and quiz competitions on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Teachers’ Day was also celebrated in Government Post Graduate College Rajouri. The event was celebrated in the fashion of a conference, where students’ impressions and experiences were recorded so that the better can be done for them and the institution. The event was a collaborative initiative of literary and cultural committee and the students of the college, which was witnessed by a large number of students and members of teaching faculty.
The Programme included a symposium on the topic ‘Teacher a role model for the society’, wherein about 10 students participated and deliberated on the creative role of teachers in shaping careers and characters. The programme was chaired by Dr J A Qazi, principal of the college, who while addressing the gathering, stressed upon the need to help students to explore their real potential and nurture creativity, scientific reasoning, values and a humanistic vision among the students.
A similar programme was organized at GDC Thannamandi, where the chief guest, Prof Zahoor Ahmed Chhatt, director colleges Higher Education department, spoke about the important role that teachers play in nurturing young minds.
Similar programmes were also organized in other institutions of the border districts.
