Army Chief reviews security situation in Jammu-Kishtwar

Amid reports of revival of militancy in Kishtwar belt, Army chief General Bipin Rawat visited White Knight Corps and sensitive Kishtwar sector in Jammu region to review the operational preparedness of the forces in the Corps Zone.

Accompanied by Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh, armycommander Udhampur based Northern Command, the chief visited Nagrota based 16Corps, where the COAS was briefed and updated by GOC Lieutenant GeneralParamjit Singh about the prevailing security scenario and operationalpreparedness. The chief also interacted at length with soldiers who aredeployed on the LoC.

   

The Chief then visitedOperational Formations in Kishtwar and Reasi Sector, which had remained in newsfor quite some time for revival of militancy and mushrooming of antinationalelements.

“The field commanders at these sectors briefed army chiefabout overall situation in the hinterland,” official sources said.

“The COAS interacted at length with soldiers deployed inCounter Militancy Operation and obtained ground feedback on operations,training, weapons, equipment and administrative issues,” Lieutenant ColonelDevender Anand, Jammu based defence spokesperson said.

“Army Chief commended allranks for their unwavering dedication to duty, selfless devotion and highstandard of professionalism,” he said.

Army chief appreciated the measures and standard operatingprocedures instituted by the units and formations in the Corps Zone to ensuresafe and secure environment. He exhorted all ranks on the need to remainvigilant to counter the nefarious designs of the enemy and anti-nationalelements. The army chief was also informed about the measures in hinterland forensuring peace and stability in the region.

Later, Army Chief paid obeisance at Mata Vaishno Devi Shrinebefore ending his two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, praying for progress andprosperity of the people of the country, an official statement said.

Earlier on June 3, Army Chief along with Union DefenceMinister Rajnath Singh visited Siachen and Srinagar and reviewed currentsecurity situation.
