Sopore paediatrician’s research gets international acclaim

A paediatrician from north Kashmir’s Sopore has received international acclaim for his research on premature babies.

32 year old Dr Tanveer Bashir in his research has compared”nasal mask vs. nasal prongs as interface for providing nasal CPAP (continuouspositive airway pressure) in very premature infants.”

   

The research done on 200 premature babies has proved that”nasal mask is superior to nasal prongs that are being used throughout theworld currently”.

The research has become first of its kind to be reported inany medical literature.

“My research was a part of 3 years advanced training inNeonatology at one of the best NICU in India, where I got select after crackingDNB (Diplomate National board) entrance exam in super specialty in Neonatology,”Dr. Tanveer said adding that he became the first medico from GMC Srinagar tosecure 5th all India rank in the exam and third medico to crack the exam fromGMC Srinagar.

This practice changing study was awarded gold medal at IAPNEOCON 2018 (Indian Academy of Paediatrics Neonatology Chapter) held at JWMarriott Pune and also got published in reputed international journal (PLOSONE).

On Top of that the research was also presented at PAS(Paediatric academic society) meeting in Baltimore USA this year. The PASpaediatric commence is one of the apex conferences in the world on paediatrics.

The young medico is aspiring to provide best neonatal carein the state and is hopeful that hospitals will inculcate the world classfacilities in the field which are lacking in the state.

“Some important facilities in neo natal care like advancedventilation and cold blanket treatment (in asphyxiated newborns) and others arenot available in Kashmir and I’m hopeful that I will put in my training andresearch to best use and will provide such facilities in Kashmir,” Tanveersaid.
