Scores of social activists Saturday evening held candle light protest in Press Colony here to denounce terrorist attack in Christchurch New Zealand that left 49 persons dead and 40 others injured.
Holding placards and banners, protestors said there was no flag large enough to cover killing of innocent people. “We strongly condemn the terrorist attack in New Zealand. We express solidarity with the victims’ families and expect New Zealand government to ensure justice in the barbaric act,” said Umar Wani, who led the protest, jointly organized by NGOs Helping Hand and Rematan Lil Aalameen (SAW).
Mass shootings at two mosques, full of worshippers attending Friday prayers, killed more than 40 people, while two explosive devices were defused, in what was described as racist attack.
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the events in Christchurch represented “an extraordinary and unprecedented act of violence” and acknowledged many of those affected may be migrants and refugees.
Various social media users in Kashmir have condemned the act while many also uploaded posts, photos and messages to express solidarity with victims and denounce the killings of innocent worshippers.
“Shocked and Deeply grieved by the barbaric attack at twin mosques in #Christchurch New Zealand. Multiple fatalities feared. Once again Humanity becomes a casualty . Condemnation beyond words. prayers for the victims,” wrote Mehraj Baba on facebook.
Another social media user Peer Bilal, while condemning the killings, expressed heartfelt sympathies with Muslims of New Zealand.
