Release of ‘Phullay Poshan Hinz’ marks Firaq’s second anniversary
Rich tributes were paid to noted poet, writer, translator and educationist Prof Ghulam Nabi Firaq on his 2nd death anniversary, which was also marked by the release of his book for children “Phullay Poshan Hinz”.
To mark the occasion a function was organised at seminar hall of the Cultural Academy which was presided over by Prof Bashar Bashir and attended by noted writers and artistes. The Kashmiri Book on children’s literature “Phullay Poshan Hinz” written by Prof Firaq was also released by the presidium on the occasion.
Prof Bashar Bashir remembered the contribution of G N Firaq “who has given new sensibilities to our poetry”. Prof Bashar congratulated the academy for organising the function and paying tributes to the “legend”.
Nasir Mansoor also paid tributes to his “legendary” father on the occasion.
Earlier in his welcome speech, Mohammad Ashraf Tak, Chief Editor Jammu Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) said that Prof Ghulam Nabi Firaq is one of the pioneering names in Kashmiri poetry who has introduced new theme and diction in Kashmiri literature. He said it is the endeavour of the academy to remember and highlight the contribution of G N Firaq.
The proceedings of the function was conducted by Dr Syed Iftikhar and was attended by eminent personalities including Rashid Kanispuri, Tanha Shihilpuri, Gulshan Badrani, Shahzada Rafiq, Saleem Salik, Asadullah Wani, Zahoor Sultan, Jameel Ansari, Tanha Rashid, Mohd Yousuf Mir, Maqbool Sajid, Ab Salam Kousari, Tahir Ahmad.
Sahitya Akademi, National Academy of Letters and J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages Tuesday organized a literary event with emerging writers of the Kashmir language.
Titled as ‘Mulakat’, the programme was held in KL Saigal Hall of the Academy premises here.
Five budding writers Rubina Mir, Shabir Hussain Shabir, Saba Shaheen and Rinku Koul read out their write-ups before the cheering audience.
Dr Aziz Hajini, Secretary J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and convener Kashmiri Advisory Board of the Sahitya Akademi while welcoming the quests and the writers said that emerging literary scenario in the Kashmiri language has a lot of promise and potential which needs to be explored, identified and projected in a befitting manner to carry forward its rich and vibrant legacy.
A number of writers, poets, cultural activists and students and scholars attended the function and appreciated the write-ups presented by young writers.
Sarhad, a Pune based Non Governmental organisation, has taken an initiative to organize a 3-days’Jammu & Kashmir International Film Festival’, in Pune, from 4th Feb. to 6th Feb. 2019, in association with ‘Film & Television Institute of India’ (FTII), Pune and ‘National Film Archives of India’ (NFAI), Pune. This is going to be a regular yearly feature in Pune.
According to the statement issued by Sarhad, the City of Pune being hub of educational, intellectual, cultural and film studies in the country, is like a second home for the people of J&K. “There is a strong emotional bond between the people of J&K and Maharashtra as whole, especially the city of Pune,” the statement read.
According to the organisation, this festival will comprise of films pertaining to Jammu and Kashmir only. “The festival is aimed at showcasing the culture, lifestyle, development and other stories from all regions of J&K, through the medium of film. The festival is also aimed at providing a platform to all the film makers from J&K, especially the young and amateur,” said the organisers.
A 5 day Painting and Photo exhibition by Sumiarah Mumtaz Choudhary and Adnan Kohli presenting glimpses of life and Culture of nomads ‘Gujjars’ of Jammu and Kashmir was inaugurated by N N Vohra former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and present President, India International Centre, New Delhi, here this afternoon, at Open Palm Gallery , Indian Habitat Centre (IHC) New Delhi.
Supported by Tribal Department , J&K Government and Salam Foundation -the programme was attended by a number of dignitaries, artists, members of Gujjar community.
N N Vohra, in his inaugural remarks stated that Gujjars constitute an important segment of our plural society. He said that the life and Culture of Gujjars especially nomads who live in Jammu and Kashmir, requires immediate preservation, documentation besides dissemination at nation and international level. He appreciated the artists Sumiarah Mumtaz Choudhary and Adnan Kohli who hails from Poonch for their wonderful work displayed in the exhibition.
Sumairha Mumtaz Choudhary, artist , while speaking on the occasion said that this exhibition and its all elements are very close to my heart- as it depicts art and culture of my own tribe . I firmly believe that this venture will propagate and the indigenous culture of Tribal of Jammu and Kashmir through art.
Adnan Kohli , whose photographs on nomad Gujjars were on display stated that the colours of life of nomads are very live and vibrant. “I tried to capture the core elements of Gujjar culture and heritage” he said and added “I travelled upper reaches of Pirpanchal with nomad Gujjars for months together to capture their style”.
Sumairha’s collection (of paintings) represents the indigenous traditions, natural beauty , moods , ethos of Gujjars-Bakarwal nomads, observed a visitors . Her work highlights an in-depth cultural expressions of tribal primitiveness, another visitor recorded and added that most of her drawing are painted by using watercolours which augments to imitate innerness of nomadic dispositions and moods.
Total 90 painting works and photographs were on display .
Young poet Sairah Rasheed’s first book Peace in Agony was released this week in Srinagar in presence of book lovers.
At just 18, Sairah Rasheed, is an emerging poet from Kupwara. Her pen dwells on a range of themes ranging from love and loss, hope and longing, self-illumination and this everyday melange of murmurs and musings, all tinged with her own experience with the same. She strongly believes in displaying every emotion unabashedly with a mesmeric poetic touch.
The book has been published by Lieper Publications and is available at various stores as well as online.
The books descriptions reads, “At the turn, lie my faulty stars, Bound, to give birth to scars. Suffering that is in my shadow, In snowflakes, it starts to glow. I embraced my share of calamity, Found I, PEACE in my AGONY.”
Srinagar: Gumshuda Sitarey, a book by senior journalist and writer Zahir-ud-Din which documents the lives of 90 persons of Kashmir who fought the Dogra rulers and participated in the movement thereafter.
The book was released by noted human rights activist and senior Advocate Parvez Imroz. While reading out excerpts of the book the author Zahir-ud-din said that every effort will be made to search for other such heroes whose contributions are huge, yet they remain confined to anonymity.
According to the description, the book is a compilation of short profiles of the unsung heroes of Kashmir’s freedom struggle, who in view of the author are the true luminaries of Kashmir’s history. Among those featured in the book are Ghulam Nabi Gilkar, an early proponent of Kashmir’s independence, KH Khurshid, Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s secretary and president of Azad Kashmir, Allah Rakha Sagar – a journalist from Jammu who was a steadfast member of Muslim Conference and who was later exiled, Kashmiri languages revolutionary play right and short-story writer Akhtar Mohiuddin and Aasiya Jeelani, a journalist and human rights defender who was killed in landmine explosion while monitoring elections.
The book is available in both English and Urdu. The Urdu version of the book is titled Gumshuda Sitare: Tehreek e Azadi key Darkshaan Sitarey Jo Gumami Key Badalon Main Kho Kar Reh Gaye.
