Man killed in road accident, family stages protest

A man was killed on the Jammu-Poonch highway, when his scooter collided with a vehicle at Bal Bakhar. Later, the deceased’s family members staged a protest on the highway, demanding the vehicle to be seized and the accused driver to be arrested.

The police said, “An accident took place at about 9 pm on Tuesday night, wherein a scooter collided with a vehicle at Bal Bakhar. While the scooter-borne man was critically injured, the driver of the vehicle fled from the spot along with his vehicle.”

   

The injured man was shifted to sub-district hospital Sunderbani, where he was declared as brought dead. He has been identified as Kuldeep Raj, son of Ram Lal, and a mechanic by profession.

Later, the deceased’s family blocked the highway at Bakhar and kept the body on the road, demanding that the vehicle involved in the accident should be seized immediately and the accused driver be arrested.

Due to the protest, the highway remained block for almost two hours, after which SDPO Nowshera Khaliq Hussain reached the spot and pacified the protesters.

He informed them that an FIR has been registered at Dharamsal police station and an investigation has been started, further assuring early identification of the accused driver. On the police officer’s assurance, the protest was called off.

Meanwhile, a senior police officer told Greater Kashmir that a case has been registered under relevant sections and some clues have been developed as well. “The vehicle involved in the hit and run case will be identified soon,” he said.
